About This Blog

This is a blog about jazz and blues music from the 1920s to the present.  Blues is defined broadly to include rhythm and blues, and soul music.  You'll find that I'm strongly imprinted on the post-World War II period, roughly from 1945-1970.  Prior to 2010, I had the good fortune to be a blues and jazz disc jockey on WIUP-FM, 90.1 in Indiana, PA.

The blog will include CD reviews (although I don't hear as much new music as when I got to listen to the free stuff record companies sent to the station), reports on live performances in the Pittsburgh area, and news of the jazz and blues world.  Sadly, that news often includes obituaries of both prominent and obscure musicians.

The name of the blog honors the 1961 Impulse LP by composer, arranger and saxophone player Oliver Nelson.  In spite of my fondness for this title, it's obvious that much of what's written here is opinion rather than truth.  Your comments and criticisms are always welcome.
